David Smith, Ph.D

​

Dave oversees the "Economic Analysis" group at Alchemetric. An economist by training, he understands the economic value of data and empowers decision-makers with the ability to derive value from complex data environments. David Smith has consulted for several industries, including legal and financial services, technology, medical, and non-profit sectors.

​

His experience includes 10 years as a senior executive in the education industry. Most recently he had chief oversight for an $80 million business unit, which under his leadership achieved YoY growth of 10+ percent in a flat industry market. With experience as both an academician and executive, Dave can translate intricate economic ecosystems into the language of business with clarity. Dave has been a commentator on

economic issues for various news media, such as CNN, the London Times, Los Angeles Times, Baltimore Sun, USA Today, the New York Times, and the Investor’s Business Daily.

Dave is an Associate Professor of Economics at the Graziadio School of Business and Management at Pepperdine. He received his bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College in Illinois, and his master’s and doctoral degrees in economics from Michigan State University.

Samuel Seaman​, Ph.D

​

Samuel manages “Numerical Enquiry” at Alchemetric, investigating amongst other things, the impact of innovation on commerce, the economy, and social institutions. He assists clients in transition from intuition to analytics…designing and operationalizing bespoke mathematical models to improve operational efficiency and optimize financial performance.    

 

Examples of recent client work include: marketing strategy review for a pharmaceutical; social currency investment for nonprofits; consumer analysis and strategic growth in entertainment; sales channel efficiencies in high tech; and HR analytics (recruiting, retaining, and engaging the finest talent).

 

A professor of Decision Sciences in the Graziadio School of Business & Management at Pepperdine University, Samuel teaches graduate courses in applied statistics. He is an accomplished researcher, with publications in a variety of academic journals including Communications in Statistics, Head & Neck Surgery, the Journal of Business Forecasting, the Journal of Business Venturing, and Strategic Management Journal.

 

His true passion, time permitting, is the ongoing search for an optimal solution to the “Particle/Wave Duality Paradox” in his lab on Malibu’s Surfrider Beach.

Yury Adamov

​

Yury guides the "Financial Realities" at Alchemetric. Currently engaged in a financial leadership rotational program at AT&T, his previous work experience included several years as an experienced assurance associate at PWC (with leadership at the Screen Actors Guild as well as Avery Dennison). In addition, there he was part of the beta testing and development team for the international roll-out of new audit software.

In between he has worked for Union Bank as both a business strategy analyst, assisting 100+ Central and Los Angeles branches as well as working on the merger and integration of Santa Barbara Bank and Trust (a $2.8 billion acquisition). He has also performed research in social media, micro-financing, economics, and new media valuation.

He received his bachelor's degree in Accounting from Loyola Marymount University, and his master's from Pepperdine University. In his spare time, he enjoys a good book or a few waves.
